According to a research report by the Online Video and the Media Industry Quarterly, Brightcove and TubeMogul, it has been revealed that the social networking site Facebook has overtook the Yahoo in the third quarter of 2010 for video referral.It is the first time that a social media site has surpassed the search engine.
The research report tracked a global sample of nearly 2,000 news and entertainment websites. Facebook is accounted for 9.6 percent of all the video referrals during the third quarter of 2010.
Google is accounted for more than half of all video referrals in the same quarter,however the social networking site has broken internet records for social media, with its rise in 2010.
Newspapers online editions also surpassed broadcasters in total minutes streamed in the first time during the same quarter, suggesting newspapers are fast adopting video content in what was once considered only a print business.
Newspapers had more minutes(313 million) of video streamed as compared to the 290 million minutes streamed by broadcasters. Video adoption and production activity is on the rise across the online media.
Wednesday was the most active day of the week by total video views, for all media companies, however Friday, had the highest engagement per view.
