Search-engine alliance between Yahoo Japan Corp and Google Inc, which has been questioned by the competitors, got the official approval from Japan’s anti-monopoly watchdog.

This alliance was criticised by rivals Microsoft and Rakuten Inc (domestic online retailer), expressing concern of unfair competition.

The alliance between the Yahoo Japan, nation’s top Internet portal and Google’s search engine, will give the two firms control of majority of  the domestic search market in Japan.

Yahoo Japan had said in a earlier statement this year that it had confirmed with the FTC that the deal would not violate antitrust regulations.  The Fair Trade Commission approved the alliance, however stated that it would continue to monitor for any possible breaches of anti-monopoly laws.

Yahoo Japan’s alliance with Google was a surprise to many as it was expected, it will follow Yahoo Inc by choosing Microsoft as a partner.
