With a objective to improve access to the cultural and educational treasures Google today 6th Dec 2010, launches eBooks which will be available in the U.S. from a new Google ebook store.

One can browse and search through more than three million titles including hundreds of thousands for sale. Google eBooks can be read on most of the devices from laptops to netbooks to tablets to smartphones.

Unlike, in the case of Amazon, where books bought from the Kindle store can only be read on Kindle apps, Google allow readers to buy books either from its store or any other online bookstore  that sells books in EPUB and PDF formats,and read them on any device with a web browser.

One can choose from where to buy ebooks like one choose where to buy print books, and keep them all on the same bookshelf regardless of where one got them.

Google Books have digitized more than 15 million books from more than 35,000 publishers, more than 40 libraries, and more than 100 countries in more than 400 languages. This deep knowledge will be searchable through Google Books search in the research section alongside the ebook store.
